McDonnell as a “Jobs Governor?” He’s gotta be kidding Common Sense Virginia today launched its third television ad, “Jobs Governor.” The ad details Bob McDonnell’s career-long failure to stand up for laid-off Virginians and challenges McDonnell’s assertion that he will be a “Jobs Governor.” A significant buy, the ad will air on both broadcast and cable television stations in the Northern Virginia, Richmond, Norfolk, and Roanoke markets. The ad is available here. “Bob McDonnell has a long record of opposing help for Virginia’s unemployed,” said Common Sense Virginia press secretary Yoni Cohen. “McDonnell is out of touch and voted again and again to ignore the challenges Virginians face in tough times. When McDonnell claims he’ll be a ‘Jobs Governor,’ he’s gotta be kidding.” In 2000, McDonnell voted against increasing the maximum weekly unemployment benefit by $100, to $332, and against providing health care to thousands of laid-off textile workers. (HB1443, 2/15/00; HB30, 4/19/00) In 2003, McDonnell voted to continue having the Commonwealth reduce Virginians’ unemployment benefits by the amount they receive in Social Security benefits. (HB1431, 1/28/03; 1/29/03). In 2009, McDonnell led the fight to have the Commonwealth reject $125 million in federal unemployment funds, denying thousands of Virginians additional insurance benefits and helping to send Virginians’ tax dollars to other states. A transcript of the ad and full documentation for the ad are available upon request. Common Sense Virginia was formed in 2009 to encourage a public discussion about the important issues the Commonwealth faces and our next Governor will confront. Common Sense Virginia is an independent political action committee (PAC) under Virginia State law. * * * |
