About CLAT 2024
The Common Law Admission Test is one of India’s most prestigious entrance exams for students aspiring to pursue a career in law. CLAT 2024 will be administered by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by 22 NLUs in India.
Earlier, the exam was held annually in May, but CLAT 2023 exam onwards, exam is scheduled for December. CLAT 2024 exam is expected to be held in December 2023. The application process for CLAT 2024 is scheduled to begin in the first week of August 2023, and candidates will have about three months to apply and prepare for the exam. The consortium will disclose all the details through an official notification for CLAT 2024.
CLAT 2024 Timeline
The CLAT 2024 timeline shall be clear once the official notification is uploaded. However, there are some tentative dates for CLAT 2024 events.

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT 2024
To appear for CLAT 2024, candidates must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
For Undergraduate Courses:
- The candidate must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
- The General / OBC/ NRI / PWD / PIO / OCI category candidate must have secured at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) in their qualifying examination.
- Candidates appearing for their 10+2 or equivalent examination in 2023 can also apply.
For Postgraduate Courses:
- The candidate must have completed their LLB or equivalent degree from a recognized university.
- The General / OBC/ NRI / PWD / PIO / OCI category candidate must have secured at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in their qualifying degree examination.
- Candidates appearing for their final year LLB exam in 2023 can also apply.
CLAT 2024 Exam Pattern
The CLAT 2024 exam pattern is expected to be similar to the previous years’ patterns. The exam will be conducted in an online mode (computer-based test) and will consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The duration of the exam will be two hours.
For Undergraduate Courses:
- The exam will consist of 150 MCQs from five sections – English Language, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.
- Each correct answer will be awarded one mark, with a negative marking of 0.25 for each incorrect answer.
For Postgraduate Courses:
- The exam will consist of 120 MCQs from two sections – Jurisprudence and Constitutional Law.
- Each correct answer will be awarded one mark, with a negative marking of 0.25 for each incorrect answer.
CLAT 2024 Syllabus
The CLAT 2024 syllabus for undergraduate and postgraduate courses is expected to be similar to the previous years’ syllabi. The syllabus for each section is as follows:
For Undergraduate Courses:
- English Language: Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, and Composition.
- Current Affairs: Static General Knowledge, Current Affairs, and Contemporary National and International Importance Events.
- Legal Reasoning: Study of Law, Research Aptitude, and Problem-Solving Ability.
- Logical Reasoning: Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Critical Thinking.
- Quantitative Techniques: Elementary Mathematics, Numerical Ability, and Data Interpretation.
For Postgraduate Courses:
- Jurisprudence: Legal Theory, Schools of Jurisprudence, and Concept of Law.
- Constitutional Law: Indian Constitution and Political System, Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy, and Centre-State Relations.
CLAT 2024 Participating Institution
22 National Universities accept admission through the CLAT exam. The only NLU that conducts its entrance exam and does not accept CLAT scores for admission is National Law University, Delhi. Besides the NLUs, various private institutions also participate in the CLAT exam. Below is the list of a few CLAT participating universities. Preparation Tips for CLAT 2024
Preparing for CLAT 2024 can be challenging, but candidates can crack the exam with the right approach and strategy. Here are some tips for preparing for CLAT 2024:
- Understand the Exam Pattern and syllabus well : Before starting the preparation, candidates must understand the exam pattern and syllabus in its entireity. This will help them focus on the more critical topics and avoid wasting time on unnecessary issues.
- Formulate a Study Plan : A study plan is essential for adequate preparation. Candidates must create a plan that is realistic and suits their learning style. The plan should include regular practice, revision, and mock tests.
